The Sisters Love were an early 70's soul and funk troupe, born from the ashes of Ray Charles' back up group The Raelets.
Marilyn Barbarin is featured on the compilation New Orleans Funk: The Original Sounds Of Funk 1960-75. Her voice reminds me of Candi Staton. She seems like a pretty groovy lady.
This Next track is from the compilation titled The Sexual Life of The Savages. The record traces the story of Brazilian musicians who gathered influence from U.S. acts like ESG, Liquid Liquid and Arto Lindsay.
Mantronix is the best of the NY club scene from the 1980s. The album features a mix of old-school hip hop, disco, electro, and club tracks.
This track is off a 12" release called Big Apple Rappin'. Soul Jazz will release a Big Apple Rappin' 2x double album in early '09.
This track is off the compilation Miami Sound: Rare Funk and Soul from Miami, Florida 1967-74. Helene Smith was a leading gal in he Miami Soul scene, along side the great Betty Wright.
The Last two tracks are from one of my all time favorite albums - New York Noise Volume 1: Dance Music from the New York Underground.
Liquid Liquid was a NY City post punk band that was active from 1980-83. This track is super hot!
And Finally, the great great ESG! There name stands for emerald, Sapphire, and gold! sooo good, it hurts! Everybody dance!
